The protection of your personal data is a high priority for Deutsche Welle It is important to us to inform you about what personal data is collected, how it is used and what options you have in this regard.

 

2. What data is collected, how is it used, and how long is it stored?

Technical features

When you visit our websites, the web server temporarily records the domain name or IP address of your computer, the client's file request (file name and URL), the http response code and the website from which you visit us. The logged data is used exclusively for data security purposes, in particular to defend against attempted attacks on our web server (Art. 6 para. 1 p. 1 lit. f DSGVO). They are neither used to create individual user profiles nor passed on to third parties and are deleted after seven days at the latest. We reserve the right to statistically evaluate anonymized data records.

Registration and user profiles 

When you visit the https://gmf.dw.com website, the first step is to enter the credentials sent to you. If the authentication including the individual steps is successful, you will be redirected to the start page. If it is not successful, access will be denied.
When you log in for the first time, a user profile is created with your e-mail address and your company. You can independently maintain this user profile (e.g. picture, function or organization) and delete it (Art. 6 para. 1 p. 1 lit. a DSGVO).
For the purpose of exchange and feedback, corresponding functions such as comment or chat are possible.
The session remains valid for 12 hours or until you close the browser. Manual termination of the session is done via the logout (logout link in the user profile menu).  

 

Communication HelpDesk 

We offer direct and fast communication with our HelpDesk as a service. For this purpose, you can use the private message function and send your requests directly to us. The entry of personal data is not required here. If an entry is made, it is voluntary and subject to Art. 6 para. 1 p. 1 lit. b DSGVO.

Social Media Login

When you use our website, third parties might give us some info about you, especially if you are signed into a third party account while using our website. When you choose to link your social media account with our website such as by logging in through Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn or Google, your social media account provider (such as Google and Facebook) will give us some info about you such as your Facebook user identification number.

Facebook Pixel

We use Facebook pixel to target people who visit DW's website more directly. As is common in this industry, we use Facebook Pixel to improve our advertisements and to provide people with more relevant ads.

Facebook pixel is a short piece of JavaScript code that is inserted into the HTML code of a web page. When a web page is loaded, Facebook pixel sends general information about the browser session to Facebook. If possible, a secure HTTP connection is used here. No personal data about the visitor to the website is transmitted.

5. What rights do I have?

You have the right,

a) to request information on the categories of data processed, the purposes of processing, any recipients of the data, the planned storage period (Art. 15 GDPR);

b) to demand the correction or completion of incorrect or incomplete data (Art. 16 DSGVO);

c) to revoke a given consent at any time with effect for the future (Art. 7 para. 3 DSGVO);

d) to object to data processing that is to be carried out on the basis of a legitimate interest for reasons arising from your particular situation (Art. 21 (1) DSGVO);

e) in certain cases, within the framework of Art. 17 DSGVO, to demand the deletion of data - in particular insofar as the data is no longer required for the intended purpose or is processed unlawfully, or you have revoked your consent in accordance with (c) above or declared an objection in accordance with (d) above;

f) under certain conditions, to demand the restriction of data, insofar as deletion is not possible or the obligation to delete is disputed (Art. 18 DSGVO);

g) to data portability, i.e. you can receive your data that you have provided to us in a common machine-readable format, such as CSV, and transmit it to others if necessary (Art. 20 DSGVO);

h) complain about data processing to the competent supervisory authority (Art. 77 DSGVO).

 

6. Who does Deutsche Welle share my data with?

Due to legal obligation:

In certain cases, we are required by law to transmit certain data to the requesting government agency. 

 

7. Where is my data processed?

Your data will generally be processed in Germany and in other European countries.
If, in exceptional cases, your data is also processed in countries outside the European Union (i.e. in so-called third countries), this will be done insofar as you have expressly consented to this or it is necessary for our provision of services to you or it is provided for by law (Art. 49 DSGVO). In addition, your data will only be processed in third countries if certain measures ensure that an adequate level of data protection exists (e.g. adequacy decision of the EU Commission or so-called suitable guarantees, Art. 44 et seq. of the GDPR).
